Samuel I. Hankins, 89, a life resident of Fountain County and father of the late Carl "Cobb" Hankins, former Montgomery County clerk, died Sunday Jan. 19, 1969, in Clinton County Hospital at Frankfort. He had been in failing health a year. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Clayburn Hankins and was born March 2, 1879 near Veedersburg. He was married to Alice Zimmerman at Danville, Ill. She preceded him in death. Surviving are a son, Dale of Frankfort, and four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Two brothers and a sister are deceased. Mr. Hankins was a teacher 30 years in Fountain County schools, retiring in 1930. He had attended Valparaiso and Indiana State. He was a member of Cooper's Chapel Church. Funeral services Wednesday at Crumley-Williams Funeral Home in Hillsboro, with Rev. Morris Finch the minister and burial in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. - jlr
